The Ghana parliament has postponed the debate on the RTI bill over fears of possible abuse related to the exemption clauses.
The decision has been taken in order to give parliamentarians room for extensive consultations.
Members disagreed on one of the ten clauses relating to the exemptions for the Office of the President, his Vice President, Cabinet records and other sensitive documents.
As members remained undecided on whether or not to allow that information to be classified, the Speaker was compelled to defer the debate on clause five of the bill to permit it.
Mr. Ayariga, Minister of Environment Science and Technology, who is also MP for Bawku Central, underscored the need for information from the presidency to be kept away from the interference of the media and public to avoid victimization.
The Deputy Attorney General, Dominic Ayine noted that he is happy about the progress of bill so far and is positive that it will be passed before the House adjourns in July.
