AFIC is Recruiting Two Senior Programme Officers
Africa Freedom of Information Centre (AFIC) is a pan-African membership civil society organization and resource centre promoting the right to information in Africa. With 41 members in 23 African countries, the centre is the largest and leading organization promoting the right to information and open contracting in Africa.
Over the past year, our open contracting portfolio has grown with active programmes in Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Nigeria, South Africa and Uganda and with prospects to grow into other countries over the coming months. Having successfully advocated for government to open public contracting data in Uganda, we are advocating for the same in other countries and promoting the use of disclosed procurement data across Africa.
Likewise, our right to information programme has also expanded. Following successful advocacy, the number of African countries with RTI laws has grown to 24. Our focus on application of the right to information has also grown to cover public contracting, health, education, gender and accountability and with higher prospects for grow further in the coming year. With Right to Information being one of the Sustainable Development Goal Targets to be reviewed by the United Nations in July 2019, we will implement study on the status of implementation of SDG 16.10.2 in selected African countries.
