Improving Transparency and Accountability in African Elections

Lack of transparency and accountability in electoral processes in Africa has undermined trust and legitimacy of electoral outcomes this has in turn influenced agenda of governments that emerge from contested electoral processes and in extreme cases resulted into wide scale violence.

Funded by the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) and implemented by Africa Freedom of Information Centre (AFIC) in collaboration with its partners Panos Institute Southern Africa and Gambia Press Union  the project seeks to promote transparency and accountability of electoral processes in Africa on the basis of African Union Guidelines on Elections and Access to Information
